THE TRAIN DEPOT
Our acoustic songwriter shows are hosted in the Freight Room of the Venice Train Depot in Venice, FL. Built in the mid 1920s, the historic depot is the perfect spot for our songwriter shows, which Sunny Jim has been hosting here since 2006. This beautiful Mediterranean Revival style building is on park land in Sarasota County with views of the Intracoastal Waterway. The Depot features a historic Caboose with a 1,920 square foot patio, as well as a beautiful covered walkway. This Station is a historic former Seaboard Air Line Railroad depot located at 303 East Venice Avenue in Venice, Florida. This is where soldiers left to fight in the war, and this is where the circus came to town for its winter home.
THE FREIGHT ROOM
The Freight Room; the depot's main indoor venue has been the site of some really great songwriter shows in the past. Sunny Jim has hosted good friends who are no longer with us but who we still remember, such as Jim Morris and Hugo Duarte. The room is a cool rustic space with exposed brick walls, wood floors, large windows, and great acoustics. Imagine Sunny Jim casually trading songs with his pals in his living room. It's been his goal from the very beginning - to host fellow songwriters to trade stories, discuss inspiration and test out new music. Each show is a unique as the performers who join Sunny Jim for an evening of original acoustic music. Shows are well attended, space is limited so reservations must be made in advance. All contributions go to the performers. Attendees are welcome to bring a small cooler with their own beverages. No food is allowed in the Freight Room, but some regular attendees tailgate in the parking lot before the show.
