A Legendary Rail Route, First Passage to the West
Sunny Jim and Brent Burns will welcome you aboard the Rocky Mountaineer in August, 2024 which will take us as a group through the vibrant cities and incredible landscapes of Western Canada. Train is the most exciting way for us to explore this region because rail tracks wind through some of the most scenic wild areas in British Columbia and Alberta.
Our week-long adventure begins in Vancouver, a beautiful city on the west coast of British Columbia, between the sea and the mountains. Vancouver has thriving art, theatre and music scenes and we plan to explore it together before boarding the Rocky Mountaineer. Our travel package includes hotel stays in Vancouver, Kamloops and Banff as well as the train trip, plus private shows by James & Brent. Here are the details of this fantastic train trip to the Canadian Rockies.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Aug 03, 2024, Vancouver, Canada
You’ll start your adventure by flying into the beautiful Canadian coastal city of Vancouver. Depending on your arrival time, you’ll have some time to explore the city – or just head to the hotel and rest up for the week ahead. We are planning to have a meet up at the hotel on this first night, time to be determined.
Day 2: Aug 04, 2024, Free Day in Vancouver
A full day to explore Vancouver on your own. We are looking in to hosting a musical performance from James and Brent somewhere in the city – more details to come.
Day 3: Aug 05, 2024, Coach Transfer from Vancouver Hotel to Train Station
We’ll be taken as a group (along with our luggage) by motorcoach from the hotel to the train station to start our journey across the Canadian Rockies.
Train Trip: Vancouver to Kamloops
Since 1990, Rocky Mountaineer has been taking guests through amazing landscapes on their luxury trains, with expansive glass dome coaches and their outdoor photo platfroms so you don’t miss any of the breathtaking landscape. This is the only passenger train service connecting Canada from East to West, and our guides will tell us the stories of the area all along the way. We’ll enjoy breakfast with views of Frazier Valley with its green landscape, towering mountains, the Frazer River and the raging whitewater of Hells Gate. Then comes a 3-course lunch prepared by chefs and our guide will continue to fill us in on the history of the area. At the end of day 1 we arrive in Kamloops, a charming town, between 5:30 and 7:30 PM.
Coach Transfer from the Kamloops Station to our hotel.
When you check-in for your train departure you’ll receive a boarding pass that will indicate your accommodation in Kamloops. Your bags will be portered to our hotel for the night. Dinner plans will be determined once our accommodations are announced. You can spend the evening exploring Kamloops or taking a stroll by the river, or simply relaxing in your hotel room. Please be aware that rail travel can be subject to unexpected delays.
Day 4: Aug 06, 2024, Coach Transfer from your Hotel to Kamloops Station
Once again, we’ll be taken in comfort from the hotel to the train station. We’ll board the Rocky Mountaineer for a second day of luxury train riding.
Train Trip: Kamloops to Banff
As we enjoy our coffee or tea the next morning, the train continues traveling east across the Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. We’ll see grasslands, lakeshores, high mountain passes and go through remarkable tunnels that form part of the railroad history of the Canadian Rockies. Up we’ll go, ascending into the mountains while enjoying a glass of wine or cocktail - maybe some original acoustic music? On the menu is a gourmet lunch prepared with local produce and food. As we approach Banff we’ll see a Castle Mountain, a landmark named by early explorers who compared it to a medieval castle. Then we arrive in Banff with its splendid views of rugged mountains, lush parks and amazing wildlife. Our expected arrival time in Banff is between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM.
Coach Transfer Banff Train to Banff Hotel
When we arrive at the Rocky Mountaineer Banff Train Siding, we’ll be transferred, along with our luggage, to our hotel (TBA) in Banff and the luggage will be delivered to our rooms.
Day 5: Aug 07, 2024, Banff, Alberta
We’ll enjoy a full day in Banff. National Park Passes are included in your package, so you can explore the park on your own schedule- like the Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain - or take advantage of one of the other excursion options we will distribute once schedules are finalized in early 2024. We’ll all meet back at the hotel for a group activity that is to be determined.
Day 6: Aug 08, 2024, Banff to Calgary
After a group meal at Banff Hotel, a luxury motor coach will take us from our hotel in Banff to the city of Calgary where will we spend the night, before heading to the airport the next day. Once we receive the hotel information from Rocky Mountaineer, we’ll plan an evening activity for the group.
